Roger Federer will be aiming to land his fifth Indian Wells trophy after making a storming start to the year.
Federer, who arrived in California on Wednesday less than 24 hours after competing in an exhibition match against Grigor Dimitrov at Madison Square Garden in New York, is in tip-top form.
Federer, who won his seventh title in Dubai earlier this month, will begin his campaign with a second round match against Diego Schwartzman from Argentina.
After sweeping titles from 2004-2006 and taking the top prize in 2012, the Swiss star was conquered by world No 1 Novak Djokovic in last year's final in the desert.
But Federer says he is feeling good about his chances this week and now hopes to go one step further this time around.
"Once you get the taste of victory and winning big tournaments you probably feel like you can do it anywhere," the world No 2 told Sky Sports.
"For me that's no different. Confidence is everything, sometimes at the top and try to take it in your stride.
"I came very close (last year) and I hope to get in a position again where I'm going to be competing for the title. I know it's tough, especially here in Indian Wells, so I'm making sure that I'm really well prepared to get in the best shape possible."
