David Nalbandian: Eliminated in opening round of Sony Open in Miami
David Nalbandian was dumped out in the first round of the Sony Open Tennis after a 2-6 6-4 6-3 defeat to Jarkko Nieminen.
Nieminen had been defeated in five of his last six meetings with the Argentine veteran but fought back from a set down to claim victory on this occasion.
Meanwhile, Australian youngster Bernard Tomic beat Marc Gicquel 7-5 7-6 (7-3) to set up a second-round clash with British No 1 Andy Murray.
Ivan Dodig came back from a set down to claim a 4-6 6-0 6-4 win over Lukas Lacko and book a second-round tie with John Isner.
Fourth seed Tomas Berdych will face Daniel Gimeno-Traver in the second round after the Spaniard eased past Denis Istomin 6-2 6-4.
David Goffin, Viktor Troicki and Olivier Rochus were also winners as the opening round neared completion on Thursday.
