Verdict

Midday and Sariska had won the previous two renewals and, although IZZI TOP hadn't achieved as much as that pair coming into the race, there has to be every chance that racegoers witnessed another top-class mare. Third in the Oaks last year having beaten the winner in the Swettenham, John Gosden had felt that she had got away with a lack of racefitness in a slowly run race at Newmarket on her reappearance and she showed the benefit of that run here. Getting a nice lead from Mohedian Lady, she was always travelling powerfully and picked up well to repel the challenge of Sajjhaa who had to settle for playing the bridesmaid for the second year running. Plenty of Pivotal's daughters (Heaven Sent, Peeress for example) have improved with age and her trainer feels that she has improved from three to four and it would be no surprise were she to have even more to offer if kept in training next season. She may, however, have already done her job by then with the Prix de l'Opera and Nassau under consideration in the second half of the season. Sajjhaa has now run the two best races of her career in this contest but there's no reason to believe that she won't prove to be equally effective elsewhere and connections will be keen to pick up a win at this level with a filly whose sole Group race success came in Italy in 2010. I'm A Dreamer's last three runs had come in Group Ones and she finished off the race well having not enjoyed the clearest of passages in the straight. This trip certainly seems to suit her better than a mile which she did most of her racing over last season and, having finished second in the E P Taylor Stakes on her final start of last year, connections will be hopeful of achieving further Pattern race success after this encouraging return. Barefoot Lady was one of the first under pressure but did respond and kept plugging away to finish fourth; she's a likeable sort but wasn't easy to place last term and connections could be faced with similar problems this season. Beatrice Aurore had shaped with considerable promise at Newmarket and it was disappointing that she didn't really build on that although she may have been in the wrong place given the way the race developed with the first two home prominent throughout. She came close to winning a Group One on the continent last autumn and it would be no surprise were she to be sent on her travels once again. Set To Music rather flattered to deceive, briefly threatening to get involved before being caught flat-footed and staying on again in the closing stages. This was the first run of her campaign and she may need a stiffer test nowadays. Timepiece's jockey reported that she hung left-handed and she hasn't always looked the most straightforward on the track although she has always impressed connections on the gallops; she has yet to win before June. Sea Of Heartbreak faced a tough task under a penalty but there was a little market confidence behind her, however, she failed to give her running. She progressed well throughout last season and this run may be best forgiven.
