In depth

Verdict

Stand Clear's only hurdling success came over this C&D last year and she ran well here in September but has been put up 4lb which seems harsh. It was only a seller that Flora's Pride won in May and the once promising Presque Perdre was tailed off on the Flat last month, his first start for two years. Mister Pete does best at Newcastle and is now on his highest mark after scoring there in March on the same card that JUKEBOX MELODY fell when a strong favourite for a novice hurdle. He was beaten at the time but the winner, Rumble Of Thunder, is now rated 138 after scoring three times subsequently so Malcolm Jefferson's charge gets the nod here. The assessor overreacted to Teenage Idol's victory at Ayr in January and hasn't released his grip while it's a long time since Irish raider Carpenter showed any real form over hurdles.
