Verdict

Always a tough nut to crack, this year's July Cup can go to Jubilee winner Soldier's Tale. The shortlist (which is a misnomer in itself) consists of Amadeus Wolf, Asset, Dandy Man, Dutch Art and Sakhee's Secret. Jeremey Noseda's charge reacted very positively to the application of a visor in the Jubilee when foiling the challenge of the horses from 'Downunder'. Having had injury problems in the past, the lightly-raced six-year-old is making up for lost time and can win again, especially given the bonus that he acts on any ground. Dutch Art has been gambled all week and Peter Chapple-Hyam's colt, third in the 2000 Guineas, must rate a massive danger now dropped to sprinting. This has always been the plan and effective on any ground, he may take some beating. As may the young pretender Sakhee's Secret. He has won his last three in effortless fashion but this is a massive leap up against some battle-hardened performers and the feeling is that he will need to be something special to win here; don't rule it out though. Other three-year-old's to note must include the almost forgotten horse Sander Camillo, Hellvelyn, and Prime Defender. Red Clubs ran well in defeat last time out, so must be respected along with Bentley Biscuit who is back after a poor crack at the King's Stand. Amadeus Wolf must bounce back from a poor run but is a very talented individual. This race is a delight; choosing from so many top-class animals can never be painful so with a big contented smile on our faces we will return to Soldier's Tale to complete an amazing double.
