In depth

Verdict

Nesno, Trouble Mountain and Moment of Clarity make the shortlist here with Moment of Clarity taken to follow up a good win last time. After successive wins at Wolverhampton in December, Moment of Clarity had disappointed until slipping down the handicap and scoring in fine style from Cheshire Prince in an apprentice contest at Haydock last time. As apprentice events go, that race had a solid look about it form wise - the runner up Cheshire Prince came from a race which had worked out well -and running off the same mark with winning claimer Stacy Renwick on board the combination looks a winning one. Nesno is a pound better off with Trouble Mountain for a beating of half a length over the course and distance last time. That win came on an easier surface but Nesno will have no problem with the quicker ground here and he is well handicapped though hard to win with. At eleven years of age Trouble Mountain is thoroughly exposed, and although the Mick Easterby yard is now in better form, even a mere three pound rise for his course and distance success may see him run out of it here-he had to work hard for his Newcastle success. Moment of Clarity can follow up.
