      Verdict

TELESCOPE came up just short in a battle for the line with Second Step in a Group 2 at Newmarket a fortnight ago. He should be fighting fit with that pipe-opener under his belt and is clear of the opposition at the weights. Group 3 winner Gatewood looks the biggest threat on his return ahead of the Qatar-based Dubday, beaten six lengths by Brown Panther at Meydan in March having got the better of compatriot Peter Anders at Doha earlier. Progressive handicapper Elite Army tries his luck in pattern company and beat Windshear at Ascot in June. The latter recently finished just ahead of Scotland in the John Porter over track and trip but Andrew Balding's charge is fancied to reverse running in this and is also preferred to Balty Boys.
