In depth

Verdict

Howle Hill made a winning return to the flat when landing a handicap over course and distance a fortnight ago and is taken to follow up off a 3lb higher mark in a race where the main dangers may come from Linning Wine and Denver. The last mentioned showed improved form on his most recent start and Brian Meehan's colt is probably less exposed than several of these so has to be respected. Some familiar names make their seasonal reappearances including Red Lancer, who improved into a Group 3 winner having opened his account in a seller at Wolverhampton last winter. However, he is a better horse on turf than on the all-weather and a greater threat may come from Clive Brittain's Santando, who has slipped to a favourable mark and hails from a stable capable of producing one to win first time out. Jagger also has an absence to overcome but again cannot be ruled out entirely although a bigger threat may come from Linning Wine. Paul Blockley's gelding is closely matched with the selection on running here two weeks ago and has run well again since then. He should appreciate the return to this trip but Howle Hill is unexposed on the Polytrack and is taken to follow up.
