Verdict

PEVERIL can make a winning debut over hurdles with The Falklander rated next best ahead of the interesting Minella For Food. The selection is yet another interesting recruit for the in-form Nicky Henderson yard and looks the part on paper having won a National Hunt Flat race when last seen in May. That success on ground quicker than ideal augured well for the future of this son of Presenting and with fitness not much of a concern we expect the five-year-old to win this relatively weak contest. The Falklander was well held behind the potentially smart Bellvano on the last of his two bumper starts before making a promising debut over timber when second over further than this at Stratford. Whilst the form looks nothing special the winner had actually shown up well enough in a Grade One prior to that contest and so Henry Daly's inmate looks to have a future over obstacles, although the feeling is that in Peveril he meets an above average newcomer. Minella For Food was last seen taking second behind none other than RSA Chase winner Cooldine in a Thurles novice hurdle but with an absence of almost two years since the horse has evidently had his problems. If handler Evan Williams can get the horse back to anything like that level he'd surely take some beating here but one would expect the horse to need this outing and he's best watched with an eye to the future. Of those with official ratings there shouldn't be much to choose between Quidonc and Pugilist with narrow preference for the former who looks the more progressive but both may be playing for a minor role here as Peveril should take some stopping.
