Verdict

Loweswater comes here in great heart and can get the better of Waverley and stablemates Manoubi and Global Challenge. Very highly-regarded by connections when he was a juvenile, John Gosden has nursed the well-bred son of Nureyev back to health and he seems to be improving with every run. He looks set to run a big race but the Royal Ascot winner, Waverley, will be no pushover, even from his revised mark, which is just four pounds higher than for that success. Sir Michael Stoute's pair, Global Challenge and Manoubi, have the kind of progressive profiles that his trainer does so well with and have to be respected. However, there are a number of runners in the field who will need no introduction to what it takes to win valuable handicaps sporting large fields. Include in that number Vintage Premium and last year's winner of this race - from a nine-pound lower mark - Sun Bird, while Shabernak is now four pounds better off for the three lengths he finished behind Waverley at Ascot. A smashing race but we'll stick with Loweswater.
