Verdict

Only one three-year-old has won this in the last seven years but the younger generation are very well represented this time. The 1,000 Guineas heroine Legatissimo just failed to hold the late thrust of Qualify in the Oaks, after looking a certain winner at this trip and looks sure to make a bold bid for compensation. Pleascach, who landed the Irish version of the former event here last month, couldn't quite cope with Curvy when stepped up in distance for the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot but remains a progressive filly who will be ideally suited by the drop back in trip. Both the classic winners should be involved in the finish but may not be capable of preventing the progress of BROOCH. Dermot Weld's filly remains unbeaten and the form of her comfortable victory in a Group 2 here last month has received an almighty boost by the subsequent exploits of Royal Ascot winner Amazing Maria and Belmont Park winner Waltzing Matilda. UK trainers have an excellent record in the race so Secret Gesture and Ribbons, first and third in the Middleton Stakes at York, enter the equation while Diamondsandrubies didn't get the run of the race in the Oaks and it would be no shock to see her reverse form with the runner-up. John Hammond's Group 2 winner Pollyana would need some rain to mount a challenge and that's by no means out of the question in a fascinating renewal.
