Verdict

This feature has thrown up some shocks in recent years but judged by her victory in what looked a more hotly contested fillies listed event on Wednesday, Lady Deauville, is none the worse for her exertions earlier this week will take a lot of beating. The more testing the ground the better for this filly so should ground conditions dry out her chances would be severly dented but she travelled so easily at Salisbury and was such a convincing winner that it is hard to see beyond her. Dropping back to a mile is the slight concern, as she does her best work in the closing stages over ten furlongs. Eva's Request is another filly that relishes getting her toe in. She won a decent juvenile prize for fillies at the Curragh last summer but is not group class and as a result has been found wanting when her ambitious connections have made their bid for glory in pattern company subsequently. Melodramtic shaped as if she needed further when sixth at Sandown last time, staying on well up the hill. She holds a leading chance on ratings. Cruel Sea could be the fly in the ointment. She did not stay ten furlongs in the Musidora and as at York, raced too keenly when dropped back to a mile at Ascot last time. As a juvenile she looked a filly that could go places but that hope is still intact after just two outings this season. Lady Deauville is the selection to land her second listed victory of the week.
