In depth

Verdict

DANEDREAM won last year's renewal before her famous victory in the Arc. She returned to her very best when beating Nathaniel in the King George at Royal Ascot in July and is certainly the one to beat here if the ground stays on the good side of soft. Another crack at the Arc for Peter Schiergen's brilliant filly will depend on the going, but it's interesting that for the first time this year, the winner of this earns automatic qualification for the Breeders' Cup Turf. Pastorius upset the odds-on Novellist in the German Derby but proved that was no fluke when demolishing the opposition in a Group 1 race at Munich last time. The latter will do well to reverse running with Mario Hofer's fast-improving colt who is currently 25/1 in this year's Arc betting. Girolamo, third in the German Derby, the progressive Temida and Ovambo Queen all have a bit to find in this company.
