      Verdict

Gringo was a shade unlucky last time and can get back on track, with Glistening, Consular and Instructor all making for a decent contest. Those who backed Gringo at York a fortnight ago were counting their losses well before the finish as Oscar Urbina appeared to overdo the waiting tactics on the inside in the race won by Luberon. Also, despite the relatively small field, Urbina somehow encountered traffic problems before pulling his mount out and finishing best of all. Kevin Darley takes over now, and the Barry Hills-trained four-year-old is taken to make amends in receipt of plenty of weight from Glistening. The latter is out to justify his position at the head of the Ebor market, and a good run today should put him spot on for York, but he too should go well here in a bid to put his luckless run at Ascot to rest. Nicky Mackay brought him too wide into the straight, and he went down by a head to Young Mick. He meets that rival on a pound better terms and can go close despite topweight. However, Consular had Young Mick further behind when landing Haydock's Old Newton Cup and will surely make his presence felt, especially if getting into the lead on the home turn. Instructor should go well of a fair weight, while Croon deserves his place in the line-up but has a 6lb penalty to overcome. Gringo remains in fine fettle and granted luck in running, can return to winning ways.
