Verdict

Despite runner-up Lucarno going on to take last year's St Ledger, last year's renewal wasn't vintage and the same applies this year; HEBRIDEAN gets the narrow selection ahead of Campanologist and All The Aces. The selection seems to have struck a rich vein of form since moving across the family lines to Aidan O'Brien. He has proven himself on various ground so rain or lack of it will be no concern and with the return to a mile and a half in his favour, he may prove hard to beat. He seems to be developing into a decent stayer and he looks the type to keep on improving as a three-year-old. Campanologist is an obvious danger; Godolphin have not had the best of weeks so far but this former Mark Johnston inmate will not go down without a fight. The form of the Lingfield Derby trial hasn't worked out well so far but it's too early to tell and it may have received a boost on Thursday. He shapes as if this trip will suit despite being by Kingmambo, and his progeny usually progress well. Top Lock represents a trainer in top form, and whilst he has a bit to find on the ratings he is very unexposed and he should run well. Winchester has some solid form to his name, and he should appreciate the step up in trip today, whilst All The Aces must be respected on his second to Derby fourth Doctor Fremantle. Bronze Cannon has a bit to find on the ratings, but along with Conduit looks a horse going places and this could be a good opportunity to land a Group race. An open affair, but Hebridean is improving and is chosen.
