Tony McCoy has been enticed out of retirement for one day only to take part in the Leger Legends Classified Stakes at Doncaster on September 9.

The record-breaking jumps jockey, who retired at Sandown in April after winning the title for the 20th year in a row, will make a rare appearance on the Flat in the charity race over the straight mile on Town Moor.

By coincidence, McCoy won the track's biggest jumps race, the Sky Bet Chase in January, on If In Doubt in the JP McManus colours he helped make famous.

Doncaster Racecourse tweeted: "Delighted to announce @AP-McCoy will be back on Town Moor Turf to ride in the St Leger Festival Leger Legends race!"

Doncaster managing director Mark Spincer said: "We're absolutely delighted. It will be fabulous to have the champ riding on that day, no doubt about it."

Bookmakers Paddy Power make McCoy 4/1 to win the race.
