EP Taylor Stakes target for Karl Burke's Odeliz

A return to Canada for a second shot at the E.P. Taylor Stakes remains the main end of season target for Odeliz following her first win in Group-race company.

Following several placed efforts in Pattern events, the five-year-old opened her account at that level when defeating the Ralph Beckett-trained Evita Peron in a Group Three at Hamburg on Saturday.

With that valuable success now in the locker, trainer Karl Burke is open minded about which route to take before aiming her at the Grade One event at Woodbine in October.

Last year the daughter of Falco just came up short in the mile-and-a-quarter contest, going down by half a length to the Charlie Hills-trained Just The Judge.

Burke said: "We were delighted to get a Group-race win with Odeliz as she fully deserved it. Having the sheepskin cheekpieces on for the first time helped, while she loves a little bit of juice in the ground.

"We decided to reach for the headgear not because she is ungenuine, but she just thinks she has won a race when she hits the front and downs tools.

"She got the gaps on Sunday and dropped through the gears very quickly.

"The E.P. Taylor Stakes is the main end of season target, but I will just speak to the owner what to do next as we may run her in a fillies' and mares' race at Deauville in early August, or give her a short break then run her once more before going to Canada."
