Ruby Walsh impressed by Un De Sceaux weekend win

Ruby Walsh was impressed with Un De Sceaux's performance in winning at Fairyhouse on Saturday.

Willie Mullins' charge lost his unbeaten record when falling on his chasing debut at Thurles last month but was almost foot-perfect when winning at 1/5 at the weekend.

“He did it well. It was a competitive enough race and he does what he always does, jumped out and went a really good gallop," the jockey told Racing UK.

“He almost overjumped at the first but after that he was very very good. He attacked his fences and won as he liked. It was a good performance and you always want the novices to get a clear round and gain some confidence so I was very pleased."

Some have questioned whether Un De Sceaux's trailblazing tactics will be a problem at the major spring festivals - but that doesn't concern his rider at this stage.

“It will probably suit a lot of other horses to have a genuine front runner in the race so it’s an honest race run at a very strong pace. But he goes a really good gallop and he could prove to be a hard horse to catch up with, let alone pass.”
