You can call Seth Rollins a turncoat, a sell-out or, as Dolph Ziggler once put it, “a self-centered scumbag traitor”.

But you must now call him Mr Money in the Bank after The Architect – albeit with a little help from The Devil’s Favourite Demon – secured a guaranteed world-title opportunity.

Repeated until 9pm, Saturday
Sky Sports Box Office

Rollins won the traditional Money in the Bank Ladder Match inside Boston’s TD Gardens in a match jam-packed with daredevil moves and fast-paced offence.

But it was ultimately Kane who had the biggest impact on the result, with the masked destroyer emerging late on to scupper Dean Ambrose’s chances and ensure Rollins prevailed.

There was bad news for Bad News Barrett before the first bell sounded, with the British Brawler prevented from competing in the wake of the shoulder injury he accrued on Smackdown.

That left Rollins and Ambrose – friends in the Shield but now very much enemies – vying for a briefcase-entrapped contract, alongside Kofi Kingston and former Money in the Bank winners Rob Van Dam, Jack Swagger and Ziggler.

Nemeses Rollins and Ambrose scuffled from the off and it was not until The Lunatic Fringe – placed in the match by Triple H at Rollins’ request – turned his attention towards Swagger that he began to suffer.

Steel

The Cincinnati-born star busted his arm after administering a DDT to The Real American and after assessment from medical staff, was removed from the duel and directed to the locker room.

There was drama aplenty after that with Kingston sending Rollins thundering into a ladder, and the latter thwacking Ziggler with a steel chair as The Show-Off aimed to mirror his triumph from 2012.

But then, in a cracking end to proceedings, Ambrose dragged his ailing body to the ring and punished Rollins with a blistering array of chair shots before embarking on the steep climb towards the briefcase…

Cue flames, eerie music and the arrival of Kane who, probably under orders from Triple H, obliterated Ambrose with a Choke Slam, allowing The Authority’s news golden boy, Seth Rollins, to safely clamber up the metal and prise the holdall from its karabiner.

Seth Rollins and Van Dam did not hold back at Money in the Bank

Rollins, who maintains that he was the brains behind The Shield, can now fight for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at any time of his choosing for up to one year, so the new possessor of that belt had better be alert…

Elsewhere, Paige defeated Naomi to retain the Divas Title; and The Usos’ stunning double superplex on Erick Rowan helped them beat the sheep mask-wearing monster and Luke Harper and keep hold of the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Plus, the intergalactic tandem of Stardust and Goldust saw off RybAxel; Big E battled courageously before he was crushed by Rusev’s Accolade; and Adam Rose conquered Damien Sandow – who dressed as American Revolution patriot Paul Revere – with Party Foul.

And, finally, Summer Rae had her heart broken by Layla, as not only did the blonde beauty lose to the Londoner, but she also had to watch on afterwards as her rival locked lips with her love interest and special guest referee Fandango.
