Caroline Wozniacki battled into the last eight of the Toray Pan Pacific Open with a 4-6 7-5 6-3 win over Jarmila Gajdosova.

The US Open finalist was not on her best form – being broken five times and serving four double faults – but still did enough to edge out her Australian opponent.

Second seed Wozniacki, who won the event back in 2010, will face No 8 seed Carla Suarez Navarro in the Tokyo quarter-finals.

Spaniard Suarez Navarro was also made to work in the second round but eventually came through to beat Russian qualifier Daria Gavrilova 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Fourth seed Jelena Jankovic was sent crashing out by French Open quarter-finalist Garbine Muguruza, who recorded a 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 win against her more experienced opponent.

Muguruza set up a quarter-final clash with Casey Dellacqua after the Australian defeated Marina Erakovic 6-2 6-4.
