Kevin Streelman sensationally birdied his final seven holes to steal in and pip Sergio Garcia and KJ Choi to victory in the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
Streelman was well adrift of the pacesetters when he birdied the 411-yard, par four 12th, which kickstarted his charge up the leaderboard, but by the time he holed in from six feet on the last, the 35-year-old had claimed the outright lead on 15 under par overall.
The 35-year-old American, who only made the cut by two shots, faced an agonising wait for Garcia and Choi to finish their rounds, but neither could replicate his success at the 18th and meant they finished in a tie for second, one shot adrift.
Streelman, who was 12 under par for the weekend after carding two 64s, started in ignominious fashion on Sunday by three-putting at the second for bogey before finding the bunker at the eighth for a five at the par four eighth.
He then birdied the ninth before his victory charge sealed only his second success on the PGA Tour, with his only other win coming at last year's Tampa Bay Championship.
Couldn't miss
No one had ever birdied the last seven holes to win a title on the tour and Streelman was understandably jubilant afterwards.
"(It was) just one of those days where I felt I couldn't miss," he told CBS.
Garcia and Choi could have ended their winless droughts on the PGA Tour, but had to settle for finishing as runners-up.
Spaniard Garcia, whose last PGA title came at the Wyndham Championship in August 2012, made five birdies and two bogeys in his three-under-par 67, which was matched by South Korean Choi, who was last victorious in America in the Players Championship three years ago.
Aaron Baddeley was in fourth on 13 under for the competition, while American duo Ryan Moore, who was the overnight leader, and Brendan Steele finished a shot further back.
United States trio Harris English, Jeff Maggert and Chad Campbell and Sweden's Carl Pettersson completed the top 10.
