US Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III has been named as Jay Haas' second assistant captain for this year's Presidents Cup in South Korea.

The 50-year-old, who was confirmed last week as the man to replace Tom Watson at Hazeltine next autumn, joins Fred Couples in assisting Haas, with the trio having worked together two years ago to help the United States to a fifth successive victory.

On that occasion it was Couples who led the side to a 18.5-15.5 win over the International Team, with Love, a six-time Presidents Cup player, happy to return to the set-up.

“I’m ready to help Jay and the team as much as I can as a captain’s assistant,” Love said. “Jay and I were successful as assistants for the last Presidents Cup in 2013, and I am very excited to join him and the U.S. Team in South Korea. I love being in the team room and positively impacting the U.S. side anyway I can."

The bi-annual tournament, being held at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in October, features 24 the world's top golfers - 12 from the United States and 12 from the rest of the world, excluding Europe.

“I’ve learned a lot from being Fred Couples’ right-hand man when he was Presidents Cup captain, so I’m glad he will be with me in South Korea," Haas said. "Also having Davis (Love) back as an assistant is a huge positive and makes a lot of sense.

“I’m pleased he has enthusiastically accepted the assistant captain’s position as he has vast experience that we can call upon. He will be my eyes and ears out on the PGA Tour, which will be invaluable.”

The International captain Nick Price has named Mark McNulty, a 16-time Eurpoean Tour winner, and Zimbabwe's Tony Johnstone as his two assistant's, with eight-time PGA Tour winner K.J. Choi vice-captain.
