Dave Chisnall reached the final of the Grand Slam of Darts after a thrilling semi-final victory over Belgian Kim Huybrechts.

The world No 8 from St Helens won a decisive final leg to beat 'The Hurricane' 16-15 at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

He will face 16-time world champion Phil Taylor in Sunday evening's final.

Chisnall trailed 14-12 but hit back to lead 15-14 before Huybrechts levelled it.

That meant 'Chizzie' had the darts in the 31st and final leg with no tiebreak in this tournament.

He got out fast but birthday boy Huybrechts hit back and was sat on 58 with Chisnall facing an 86 checkout to win.

He duly took it out in two darts to set up a final against Taylor.

Chisnall, who finished with a 96.64 average and a 40 per cent checkout rate, told Sky Sports: "I just had to dig in again. He went up but at 14-12 down I knew I could still pull it out. I am just happy to get through.

Defending champion Phil Taylor - a five-time winner of this event - beat Mervyn King 16-9 to make it into this year's final.

Shame

"Fair play to Kim, we both played great there, it's a shame someone has to lose."

The Belgian, who hit 11 maximums in defeat, added: "I played well, I didn't play as well as I did against Michael van Gerwen.

Dave Chisnall reached the final of the Grand Slam of Darts after a thrilling semi-final victory over Kim Huybrechts.

"It doesn't matter - I played a good game but Dave was the better player today. The crowd was against me today as well, that affected me a bit, I don't know why.

"I played my best and I hope Dave wins in the final as well now."

Before this year, Chisnall had never previously gone beyond the group stages in the Grand Slam.

The second semi-final was a much more one-sided affair as defending champion Taylor - a five-time winner of this event - beat Mervyn King 16-9.

It had looked set to be a demolition job by 'The Power' as Taylor led 12-2 and 15-5, but King showed plenty of courage in at least making the scoreline respectable.
