Former Hull FC scrum-half Tony Dean died on Friday evening after a long battle with cancer. He was 65.
Dean played for Batley, Hunslet and home-town club Castleford but is best remembered for his spell with the Airlie Birds, for whom he played when they won the Challenge Cup against Widnes in 1982.
Hull say Dean, who was supported by the Hull FC ex-Players Association during his illness, passed away at the Prince of Wales hospice in Pontefract with his family at his bedside.
Tony was a fine player for Hull FC, a true rugby league character and a fine ambassador for our sport.
Hull FC owner Adam Pearson said: "Tony was a fine player for Hull FC, a true rugby league character and a fine ambassador for our sport.
"We all have some great memories of Tony as a player and it was very sad to hear of his passing tonight.
"It's comforting to know his family were with him and the thoughts of everyone connected with the club are with them at this sad time.
"I'm sure we'll take a moment to reflect on Tony's life and career at Thursday's game against Castleford and his memory will take centre stage at our annual heritage and memorial weekend at the final round of the season when we host Leeds."
