Britain's Lizzie Armitstead underlined her Olympic road race claims when winning the inaugural women's version of Gent-Wevelgem on Sunday. The 23-year-old, who rides for Dutch squad Team AA Drink/leontien.nl, broke clear with 40 kilometres remaining in the 113.7km event and powered to a solo victory, her second success of the month in Belgium. Armitstead has opted to focus on the road race at the Olympics in preference to the track this season and she is likely to spearhead Great Britain's team.
