Ryu So-Yeon won her first LPGA title in two years as she held off Choi Na-Yeon to claim the Canadian Women's Open title.

Ryu’s last success on the tour came at the 2012 Toledo Classic, while she was the US Women's Open champion in 2011.

However she fired a final-round 69 to beat fellow South Korean Choi by two shots – with a birdie at the 16th proving crucial.

"I did trust myself," Ryu said. "I didn't care about anybody else. I focused on my game. I wasn't playing my best game on the back nine but I just kept through it.

Happy

"Hole 16 was a really big hole. I was sure if I made (the birdie putt) I was going to win it. I was really happy I made it."

Choi had cranked up the pressure on Ryu over the final round, cutting the deficit to just one shot courtesy of a 15-foot birdie at the 15th.

However Ryu kept her nerve with a birdie-par-par finish to match the season-low LPGA 72-hole total of 23-under par.

World No 2 Park In-Bee, the LPGA Championship winner, was third on 270 with Azahara Munoz a stroke adrift in fourth.
