Newcastle United star Hatem Ben Arfa will not be moving to the Middle East, his agent has insisted.

The French midfielder has been linked with Qatari clubs Al Sadd and Lekhwiya, having falling out of favour at St James' Park under Alan Pardew.

However, the 27-year-old is not about to start plying his trade in Qatar- according to his representative.

When asked about the interest from Qatar, his agent Michel Ouazine told L'Equipe: “This is false. He remains on a one-year contract at Newcastle and Hatem has the intention to continue to play in Europe.”

Ben Arfa, who failed to make France's World Cup squad, joined Newcastle in 2010 from Marseille, but started just 13 league games last season.
