Magpies' boss happy with meeting with midfielder

Gavin Mahon is set to agree a new one-year deal at Notts County next week after meeting with manager Keith Curle. The influential midfielder was deliberately left out of the Magpies side for the last nine games of the League One season in which they missed out on the play-offs by goal difference. Had the 35-year-old started one more game for County he would have activated an extension clause in his deal. However, Curle is keen to renegotiate the terms in his contract of a further 12 months with the club and is hopeful the former Watford captain will accept lower wages.

Unhealthy

"We've had a meeting since the end of the season and revisited the issue of his contract," said Curle in the Nottingham Evening Post. "It was an unhealthy situation that we both found ourselves in, but I think we both made the best of it. "I was open and honest with him from the very start because that is the only way to address difficult issues and he was honest in his performances, which is great credit to him. "He gave his all when we needed him."
