Lucho Gonzalez is poised to return to Porto after the Portuguese club agreed a deal with Marseille.
The Argentina international played for Porto for four years until 2009 before making the switch to Ligue 1 football.
This season has seen a dip in form from Gonzalez, who was linked with Arsenal last summer, with two goals and no assists in 19 league matches.
Marseille are keen to reduce their wage bill and have accepted a deal from the Portuguese giants ahead of the transfer window closing.
"Marseille and Porto have reached an agreement in principle for the final transfer of Argentinian midfielder Lucho Gonzalez to the Portuguese club," read a statement on Marseille's official website.
