Quaresma only moved to Barca last summer from Sporting Lisbon in a £4 million deal, but endured a frustrating first season with the Catalan giants.
Although he made 20 league appearances last term, the 20-year-old failed to establish himself as a first-team regular and spent much of the campaign warming the bench.
To cap off a miserable first season in Spain the winger broke a bone in his foot in May which forced him out of Portugal's squad for Euro 2004.
Now Quaresma has revealed the extent of his unhappiness at Barca and claims his relationship with Rijkaard is so bad he will not consider returning if the Dutchman remains in charge.
"If Rijkaard goes and another coach comes in, talks with me and gives me confidence then I will return," he stated.
"But if Rijkaard stays, I won't return. Not the year after either.
"Rijkaard and I do not understand each other.
"I do not want to cause problems in the dressing room because this has nothing to do with my team-mates. This is between me and Rijkaard.
"If Rijkaard says I will not be playing then I will have to think about what club I will be going to, but if I do go it's to play."
