Barca target PSG star

Paris Saint Germain's Danijel Ljuboja has emerged as a surprise target for Barcelona.

Paris Saint Germain striker Danijel Ljuboja has emerged as a surprise target for Barcelona.

It is understood that the Serbian hit-man has been offered to the Catalan titans who are looking to sign a striker and a defensive midfielder during the January transfer window.

PSG are ready to offload Ljuboja after a series of disputes between the player and manager Vahid Halilhodzic.

Despite not initially knowing much about the player, Barca have received good reports of the 26-year-old and are understood to be seriously considering a move for him.

Boss Frank Rijkaard is attracted by the fact that Ljuboja can play as a striker or wide on the left, versatility that would see him fit easily into Barca's system.

The Serb also has EU nationality courtesy of a French passport, but one drawback is that he would be ineligible for UEFA Champions League action as he has already made four appearances for PSG in the competition.

Barca representatives are due to meet with their PSG counterparts in the near future to discuss a possible deal which would almost certainly take the form of an initial loan deal with an option to make the transfer permanent.

Ljuboja insisted last month that he was not looking to leave Parc des Princes during the winter transfer window despite his differences with Halilhodzic, but the opportunity to join Barca would almost certainly prove too good to resist if the Catalans do firm up their interest.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported in Spain that Milan's Jon Dahl Tomasson is another of the names Barca are considering a move for.

Catalan daily Sport suggests that Milan are ready to loan out the Danish international in order to try and reduce their wage bill, and insist Barca are in the frame to sign him.
