Bouchet denies Red Devils talks

MARSEILLE chairman Christophe Bouchet has denied having any contact with Manchester United concerning Daniel van Buyten over a possible transfer despite the latest rumours.

The Belgium international defender let it be known in the Belgian press earlier this week that the two clubs were in negotiations about a possible switch to Old Trafford in the summer.

Bouchet though insisted that nobody from The Red Devils had been in contact with him and that the powerful centre half was contracted to the club until June 2006.

"We didn't have any contact with anyone from Manchester United.

"The only direct contact we received from anyone was from Newcastle United during Mercato.

"As we confirmed he was untransferable, the English officials didn't proceed with the matter.

"Our position won't change until we will know if the team will play in the Champions League next season."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Vedran Runje reacted to the news that coach Alain Perrin was on the lookout for a new goalkeeper by saying: "If they think to Mickael Landreau, I will welcome him.

"It is a nice club and we will have some fun. If Marseille decide they need a new goalkeeper, I hope they find one.

"Me, I love competition, that's what gets me going."
