Rovers striker signs on

Doncaster Rovers hot-shot Paul Heffernan has signed a new deal.

Doncaster Rovers hot-shot Paul Heffernan has signed a new deal that ties him to The Keepmoat Stadium until 2010.

The Irish striker has plundered 19 goals so far this season and has now committed his future to Sean O'Driscoll's side.

The Rovers boss has welcomed Heffernan's decision after the front-man hit form following concerns over his fitness.

"When I arrived I don't think Paul had recovered from his groin injury but after some good work by the physio team he is now back to his best form," O'Driscoll told the club's official website.

Club chief executive Dave Morris has also welcomed Heffernan's decision, whilst querying why he has been overlooked for international honours by Steve Staunton.

"This is a great day for Paul and the club as we look to move forward," said Morris.

"I just cannot believe that Ireland have not taken a look at Paul yet for international honours."
