Nihat Kahveci seems set to sign for Spartak Moscow after snubbing the overtures of Newcastle.The player's agent claimed last weekend that Newcastle were in talks to sign the player as they look to fill the void left by Michael Owen's injury.
However, Nihat has opted to move to Spartak after they agreed a deal with Real Sociedad for the Turkish international.
Spartak have been chasing Nihat for some time and the Russian side are closing on his signature after he travelled to Moscow to undergo a medical.
Sociedad are willing to sell Nihat as they would prefer to sell him now rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer when his contract expires.
Spartak are believed to have agreed a three-year deal with Nihat and the player himself feels the move is the best thing for all parties involved.
"This is the best thing for Real Sociedad and me," said Nihat.
