Eagles seal deal for Kuqi

Crystal Palace beat the transfer deadline to sign Blackburn striker Shefki Kuqi.

Crystal Palace beat the transfer deadline to sign Blackburn striker Shefki Kuqi for a fee of £2.5 million.

The Finland international broke off preparations for the national team's clash with Poland on Saturday to clinch a move to The Eagles.

After passing a medical late on Thursday night, Kuqi put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal minutes before the midnight cut-off.

The 29-year-old joined Rovers last summer on a free transfer from Ipswich, but he became frustrated after manager Mark Hughes viewed him primarily as a substitute.

Eagles boss Peter Taylor hopes the signing of Kuqi will be able to maintain the club's fine start to The Championship season, which has seen the South London club claim 10 points from their first five matches.

Kuqi's place in Rovers squad has gone to the Premiership team's deadline day loan signing of Roma striker Shabani Nonda.
