Kuqi to leave Ipswich

Shefki Kuqi has rejected a new contract at Ipswich and will move to The Premiership.

Shefki Kuqi has rejected a new contract at Ipswich Town and is poised to follow Tommy Miller into The Premiership.

Miller has shunned a fresh deal at Portman Road and will join Premiership new boys Sunderland in the coming week.

Finland international Kuqi has also decided to sever his ties with Ipswich after spurning the offer of a new two-year contract.

The striker's destination is also likely to be The Premiership, with Ipswich boss Joe Royle lamented the impending exits of the duo.

"I can confirm that both Tommy and Shefki have chosen to look elsewhere for their football next season," Royle told the club's official website.

"We made excellent offers to both players, as good as we could make at Championship level, but the lure of The Premiership has proven too great.

"I'm sorry to see them go and wish them every success in their future careers but now I know where we stand for next season and can start looking ahead."

Kuqi joined Ipswich from Sheffield Wednesday in September 2003, initially on a loan basis, and he has scored 32 goals for the Championship outfit.

Crystal Palace and Leeds United had been linked with Kuqi but are likely to miss out on the 28-year-old, with Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland mooted as his Premiership suitors.
