Chairboys bring in Chelsea boy

Wycombe have signed versatile Chelsea youngster Anthony Grant on loan for the season.

Wycombe Wanderers have snapped up versatile Chelsea youngster Anthony Grant on loan for the season.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder has been at Stamford Bridge since the age of nine, but has struggled to win a first-team place.

He made his debut for the Premiership champions in May 2005 against Manchester United, but spent time last season on loan at Oldham Athletic.

Chairboys boss Paul Lambert has welcomed the England Under-19 international's arrival to strengthen the midfield.

"When you get a player on loan it is always a gamble because they have to adapt very quickly," Lambert admitted.

"But everyone I've spoken to has high hopes for him and it will be entirely up to him to take off when he gets here."

The League Two outfit have also been boosted by news that Jonny Dixon has extended his stay at the Causeway.

Dixon has signed a new one-year deal with Lambert's team despite interest from several Conference clubs.

"It was well documented that other offers were on the table for me, but I wanted to stay at this club and give it another year," Dixon explained.

Both players look likely to feature as the Chairboys take on Aldershot Town in their next pre-season match on Friday.
