Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes is training with Manchester United as he recovers from a serious knee injury.

The 32-year-old damaged a cruciate ligament in March and missed out on a place in Spain's World Cup squad.

He had already announced he would be leaving Barca in the summer and remains a free agent as his rehabilitation continues.

And the remainder of that rehabilitation will be done with United following an offer from United boss Louis van Gaal.

A United statement read: "Valdes will have his recovery supervised by the United medical staff before training with the first team, as he bids to regain full fitness."

United, who have Anders Lindegaard as back-up to No 1 David De Gea, did not say whether they intend to offer Valdes a contract.
