Dimitar Berbatov says he would welcome a return to the Premier League after being released by Monaco.

The 34-year-old, who has played for Manchester United, Tottenham and Fulham, is on the hunt for a new club after leaving the Ligue 1 side this week.

He scored nine times in 37 appearances for a side that finished third but, speaking to reporters in Sofia, said he would relish a return to England's top flight.

"It'd be a pleasure [to return to England]," the Bulgarian, who joined Monaco in 2014 from Fulham and helped the club reach the Champions League quarter-finals this season, said.

"I spent a long time in England and I keep very good memories. Everyone is watching the English championship... the Premier League, and I'll be delighted to return.
