Paul Merson believes Arsenal should be disappointed to have exited the Champions League against a “not very good" Monaco team.
The Gunners almost overcame the odds to qualify for the last eight but fell just short, heading out on away goals despite winning 2-0 in the principality on Tuesday night.
The surprise 3-1 defeat at the Emirates ultimately was Arsenal’s undoing, and Merson believes Arsene Wenger’s side should have had enough to oust the French team.
“When it was 2-1 in the first leg, instead of shutting up shop and putting it down to one of them days, the fans started shouting ‘attack, attack, attack’,” Merson told Sky Sports News HQ.
“When you look at it now, they are not a very good team, Monaco, and Arsenal will be disappointed.
“Arsenal lost it in the first leg.
"No disrespect to Monaco, but we can see they are not a very good team.
"Whoever gets them in the next round will be pleased."
