Jim Fenlon has left AFC Wimbledon after failing to agree a new deal with the League Two club.

Fenlon featured 20 times for the Dons last season but was offered reduced terms after boss Neal Ardley decided not to take up the option on his contract. However, the versatile defender has rejected the offer and has quit Kingsmeadow. "Jim had an option on his contract, which would have taken him up amongst the highest earners at the club," Ardley told the club's website. "This was an option that we felt we could not take up considering his form and attitude during the past 12 months "As with all Football League contracts, the club has to offer at least the same terms as the player was on to retain compensation rights. However, with our budget that was a step too far for us. "We offered Jim a slightly reduced offer in the hope that we would be able to add the attitude required to his ability. But we have not been given that chance and we therefore wish Jim all the best for the future. "Jim's best position is right-back and with Barry Fuller have earned the Player of the Year award last season we had to assess whether Jim would be a force for us next season." Fenlon made 41 appearances for the Dons after coming through the ranks, scoring two goals.
