German league leaders looking to keep Japan star

Borussia Dortmund are confident Shinji Kagawa will soon put pen to paper on a new deal despite reported interest from Manchester United and Chelsea. The 23-year-old has found the net 12 times in 25 games for the German giants in their current campaign while he bagged an impressive eight in 18 games last season following his move from Cerezo Osaka in 2010. Kagawa's current deal runs out in the summer of 2013 and many clubs around Europe were alerted when he looked to be stalling on a new contract at the club. Although Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc concedes the £12.5m-rated man will move elsewhere in Europe eventually, he is confident Kagawa will sign a new deal to keep him in the Bundesliga for the foreseeable future.

Contract

"We will have a decision some time soon," he told German newspaper Bild. "We would be glad to sign a new contract with him. "Shinji Kagawa is a key part of our plans. I can confirm the ball is still in play, Shinji just needs to score. "Of course we are aware he would like to play in England or Spain some day. The question is when he will do so."
