Dutch striker feels he has grounds for appeal over dismissal

St Mirren have confirmed they have appealed against Nigel Hasselbaink's dismissal against Dundee United on Saturday. The striker was sent off for violent conduct by referee Crawford Allan in first-half injury time when his arm caught United defender Paul Dixon. "We have had it confirmed on Monday that Nigel Hasselbaink was sent off for violent conduct in Saturday's game against Dundee United," read a statement on the club's official website. "We have reviewed the footage of the incident at length and feel an appeal is appropriate. "We have therefore taken the first steps with the Scottish Football Association to lodge the appeal."
