Reading keeper signs three-year contract

Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has signed a new contract to keep him at the Madejski Stadium until 2013. The 20-year-old has yet to feature for the first team but made 45 appearances on loan at League One side Yeovil last season. McCarthy is seen as one for the future after being included in the England Under-21 squad to face Uzbekistan on Tuesday. Director of football Nick Hammond told the club's official website: "We are very pleased to have secured Alex's services for the next three years. "He is an outstanding young goalkeeper who has already gained a lot of experience of league football and if he continues to work hard and improve he has a very bright future."
