The first Test between Australia and India will now be played in Adelaide, starting on December 9, in a reshuffle of the series following the death of Phillip Hughes.

Adelaide was originally due to be the venue for the second Test, starting on December 12, but that been brought forward following the postponement of this week's first Test in Brisbane.

Hughes died on Thursday from injuries suffered when he was struck by a bouncer in a Sheffield Shield match.

His funeral will take place in the sports hall of Macksville High School in New South Wales on Wednesday and will be broadcast nationwide in Australia and carried on Cricket Australia's website, while big screens will show the service at the SCG Trust and Adelaide Oval.

The Australian and Indian cricket boards considered a range of options in conjunction with the players' union, including cancelling the Brisbane Test altogether, before opting for a reshuffle, with three of the four matches being shifted.

The Brisbane Test will slot in after Adelaide, beginning on December 17, with no change to the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

The Sydney Test, which was due to start on January 3, has been pushed back to January 6, but there are no changes to the dates for the tri-nations one-day series between Australia, India and England.

There has, however, been a venue and opposition swap for the first two games, with Australia now playing England at the SCG on January 16 and India at the MCG on January 18.

CA Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland said: “Nobody should underestimate just what these players are going through right now. These are difficult days and we need to support them in dealing with their grief.

“It’s very clear that playing a Test right now is just too soon and we are reacting accordingly."
