Andrew Leathers was only down as a reserve for the tenth Fish 'O' Mania qualifier at Barford Lakes in Norwich, but capitalised on a late opening to secure a spot in the final.
After getting a ticket on the morning of the event, Hotrods angler Leathers drew fancied peg 30, a corner peg on the Match lake, and, in another stroke of good fortune, saw no one else draw the peg on his left.
He then fished worm and caster to the corner and worm and groundbait to the left to take fish virtually all day to win with 154lb 15oz net of F1's and carp to 10 lbs.
Heavy rain overnight and pretty cold conditions all day made this a hard match for most of the anglers and runner-up Marc Rodger from Ossett was a considerable distance behind Leathers, netting 91lb of carp and F1's from peg three on the Top lake, fishing pellet shallow down the edge.
In third place was local angler Lee Carver with 78lb 6ozs from peg 29 on the Pleasure Lake. Lee fished pellet waggler to take carp to 14lbs.
Fourth place went to Matthew Bunting (Dersingham AC) with 78lbs of carp from the margins on Pleasure 23, his biggest carp weighing in at 17lbs 8ozs.
Chris Knights (Harleston AC) finished fifth with 73lbs 4ozs, and had carp to 10lbs on pellet waggler from Pleasure 13.
On Saturday 25th May Aston Park Lakes in Sheffield will be hosting the next Fish 'O' Mania qualifier.
