Well, I've almost made it to the finishing post with my training.

"When my ballot place was confirmed and my dream was there waiting for me to grab, I knew that I had to give it my all and commit to the journey I had ahead of me."

Quotes of the week

I'm going to attempt one final slow long run of 20 miles next week, but having achieved 18 miles last week, I'm not putting too much pressure on myself.

In the final few weeks, it's really important to slow down on the training and start the marathon with fresh legs and no injuries, if at all possible.

When I started this journey back in October, I was already dashing about with very little spare time and I was extremely worried how I would ever manage to fit in the necessary training. However, there's a very good saying 'where there's a will, there's a way'.

I have always been the sort of person that has watched other people achieving their ambitions and aspirations, but always found excuses not to pursue my own.

When my ballot place was confirmed and my dream was there waiting for me to grab, I knew that I had to give it my all and commit to the journey I had ahead of me.

This was my time and I was going to have to find a way of achieving it, no excuses this time!

I was about to turn 40 and what better way to celebrate being alive than completing the London Marathon.

Emotional

It's not been easy and there have definitely been points during my training that I've thought I must be mad, but I wouldn't change a single minute of it.

Having almost reached the end of my journey, my confidence in my own ability is off the scale. I would never have believed that I could run a half marathon and actually enjoy the experience, but I did and it was fantastic.

I finally feel as though I'm doing something for myself and the thought of crossing the finish line on April 22 makes me feel very emotional.

I've learnt that it doesn't matter what your aspirations are, if you want to achieve something badly enough, then anything is possible. It's human nature to find excuses and reasons not to do something and if we can convince ourselves that it's out of our hands, then we can just carry on existing. Life is about living every minute of every day and grabbing opportunities and dreams along the way.

I really hope that my story and journey inspires someone else to chase their dream. I'll hold onto this experience for the rest of my life.

Find the confidence within and believe in your ability, it is there, it just takes commitment and determination and you too could feel top of the world.

Wish me luck!!
