Jose Mourinho told Revista that it frustrates him that his Real Madrid players perform in the bigger games but they lose focus when facing seemingly weaker opposition.
Their woeful form in La Liga has seen Barcelona steal the initiative domestically after real have suffered defeats to Sevilla and Getafe. However their Champions League campaign is off to flying start with a come-from-behind win against Manchester City and Mourinho says that his players lack of focus in every game is frustrating.
"I just want our players to respond to what this club demands and what our prestige demands," said Mourinho on Revista.
"I don't accept that you win against Barcelona, you win against Man City and then you lose against Getafe and you lose against Sevilla. I don't accept that, especially as last season it did not happen.
"Why did it not happen last season? Because we were completely focussed on winning the championship and ending the Barcelona reign over the years. To do that we had to win almost every match of the season, we needed to beat this record of 100 points, so now we are champions.
"But do we don't not want to be champions again? That is something that I don't accept. That is my fight with the players, because when they want to win they can."
The history of such a prestigious club like Real Madrid can weigh heavily on the shoulders, however Mourinho says that he is only interested in reaching the high standards he sets for himself rather than worrying about outside pressure.
"I don't feel the pressure because I am the one who puts pressure on myself -when I motivate myself and demand a lot from myself, I am not influenced from the pressure from the outside.
"If you are a person without ambition or do not put that kind of responsibility on yourself then yes you will feel the pressure from the outside and suffer from that. But I am the one who is putting the pressure on and if I don't get the result then I am not happy about that. I am the kind of person who is very relaxed with the pressure coming from the outside."
