The former Ajax, Juventus and Barcelona midfielder is currently plying his trade in London as a player/joint head coach at League Two side Barnet and told Goals on Sunday that he can still learn a thing or two about the game.

"I enjoy it a lot, I am learning a lot from the other players, from the coaches and also from the league," Davids said on Goals on Sunday.

"It is not really a culture shock because I have trained with amateur clubs because of the coaching badges I did.

"It is a lesson because you have to chop things up - they may not see the solution immediately so you have to chop up the training sessions so that they can really digest it all.

"When I am on the pitch I just want to play, I don't care if it is the Nou Camp or not, I just want to play.

"Even though we lost yesterday we still took baby steps forward. Two weeks ago we played Oxford and we just got hammered - there was nothing positive about the game. Then you are disappointed because you see that you have taken three steps back.

"Yesterday when you look at the overall game I think we did okay - we still made errors but if we can diminish that then we can improve."

Davids was part of the young Ajax team who won the Champions League in 1995, and says that playing with the likes of Jari Olavi Litmanen, Marc Overmars, Patrick Kluivert and the de Boer brothers - Frank and Ronald - was not overwhelming.

He added: "It was normal to be growing up with all those players, we did not know any better. I just grew up in Ajax with all the players from Ajax, we only had two or three foreigners so everyone knew each other and knew the system.

"Player wise it was the best team I ever played in, but not the best team. I think when I played at Juventus that was the best team."
