The new Super League season is off and running and with the World Cup swinging into gear in October, what better time to get involved in rugby league?

Throughout February, Sky Sports News will guide you through the finer points of the sport and showing you why rugby league - which has experienced a notable drop in the number of 18-19 year-olds participating - is a perfect way to spend your time

In episode one, we visited the Thatto Heath Crusaders club in St Helens and the Guildford Giants in Surrey to learn that this isn't just a rough-and-tumble sport for big men; anybody can get involved...

THE YOUNG - Children as young as four are encouraged to play tag rugby and the parents we met appreciated the respect, team work and discipline that the game brought to their youngsters.

THE OLD - Masters rugby league is a concept developed for anybody over the age of 35. The colour of the player's shorts defines the level of contact allowed on that individual, ranging from full contact to just touch.

BOTH SEXES - Teenage girls have shown some of the most dramatic increase in participation in recent years. Thatto Heath Crusaders started with just eight girls playing regularly and they now have 40 registered. Increase in the women's game is also on the rise.

There's plenty more on offer over the next few weeks, too, as we meet a local rugby league star in Oulton who has helped out their community, and get a masterclass in the sport from reigning Super League champions Leeds Rhinos.
